I recently ran across a sxs double barrel shotgun with the brand name Habicht. It appears to be of decent quality and workmanship. It has some engraving with blued barrels and a case colored receiver. Does anybody know anything about this manufacturer and this make of shotgun. Thanks

Evenin' 5090,

I'm afraid that I can't help you...other than to say that I've seen one. My Dad picked one of these up donkey's years ago; late '60s if memory serves.

I was a kid and didn't know boxlocks from sidelocks back then, but I don't recall him having any problems with it. Killed a pile of doves with it as I recall.

German manufacture if I'm not mistaken. I believe that Habicht means "hawk", but my German would have to improve to be feeble! I'm sure that more knowledgeable hands will chime in with better info than I've got.

Thanks for making me walk down memory lane!

Mark

30 years ago, my first (used) shotgun was a similar S/S Habicht. Quality was indeed decent and it served me well for a few years, until I was able to buy my first FN-Browning B25. From what I remember I suspect the origin to be Spanish, German name notwithstanding.

I believe there were shotguns by that name that were sold through the Rod & Gun Club system in Germany in the early 60's. They were of average quality at the time. I think they sold for around 150-200 dollars. Do not recall where they were made. Just remember that the rep always pushed them to the club custodian.
