Which rem 1100 to get?

I'm looking at getting a remington 1100 primarily for shooting clays and maybe skeet and also pheasant hunting during the hunting season. I'm a diehard 870 pump guy so this would be my first auto. The choices are G3, Competition, Classic Trap, Sporting 12 and Tournament skeet. Does any of these have any performance advantages over the other? I'll admit I haven't gotten the chance to handle one of each but I looked at a G3 and just fell in love with it although it can shoot 3in shells so don't know how that would handle light loads since i will shoot more light loads than magnums. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I love my 1100 30" barrell Competition with adjustable comb. It's beautiful, well made, cycles anything, and it shoots better than I can! Highly recommended.

I like my 12g Rem 870 Wingmaster with 3 barrels:30" trap, skeet & 28" field with Rem Chokes, my 30 inch Winchester Mod 12 Trap , my Rem 11-87 & my Ithaca featherlite 16g pump.My pumps will chamber rounds faster than any autoloader plus I hate aluminum shotguns had a Mossberg 9200 grenade on me with an aluminum receiver.

I have my father's 30" 870 in full choke--it's around 50 yrs old. I am going to take it to the trap club next time I go. I bet it will be fun. They sure have a fine balance about them don't they?

Whichever one fits you best. The good old "lemon hunderd" has probably broken more clay birds than any other gun. I still use one I've doctored up, for sporting clays. Of course I'm in the minority, as all my shooting buddies try to "out-Texas" one another by seeing who can get an O/U with the most engraving Smiler.
I don't shoot the 1100 because it's all I can afford. I shoot it because it works best for me. I think they are still the softest shooting gun out there. They fit me well and I've never had a malfunction with mine. I've seen them on the skeet range years ago, that had 50K rounds through them with no malfunctions or repairs needed; just cleaning. Keep a spare o-ring just in case. If they cycle too slow for you, you're probably shooting way too fast Roll Eyes

Berettas are good guns too. There are probably 5 times as many 1100's in my area as Berettas. But, I get a lot more of the berettas (& the browning labeled berettas) in for repair than the Rems.

I am a previous Beretta owner and wouldn't buy a Beretta semi-auto again when 1100's are so reliable and easy to service. I will however hold on to my silver pigeon 20 Wink I have a tournament skeet 12 that has more then a very nice stock and foreend on it. Barrel is 26 vs 28 on the Sporting version but otherwise the same gun. Comes with 2 Briley choke tubes. Superb shooter, extremely reliable and very nice to look at .

The fit of the 1100 is the most important thing for you. In fact, check out several of the same particular model to ensure fit. I've had people tell me this is crazy on a mass produced shotgun, but try it.
As far as maintenance, most people don't clean them properly and over-oil them. Clean the magazine tube using Hoppes 9 and 0000 steel wool. Take a thick toothpick covered with metal polish and polish the gas vent hole/holes in the barrel.
I shoot a Beretta 682 with Briley tubes for skeet. I also have four 1100 Skeet Tournament Grades that I shoot for fun and sometimes in matches.
My hunting guns are 12 & 20 1100s and Beretta 390s. Yep four guns. I use the Berettas when I need 3" shells, otherwise the 1100s. Grandsons and Granddaughters are always borrowing guns, that's why so many.
