As yall might recall, I did a camo paint job on my Tikka T3 using Krylon paint. It turned out alright, not great but not horrible. This time I was sure to have closer to equal amounts of the colors instead of one dominating the scheme. The gun started off as a Mossberg 500A in Mossberg's "woodlands" camo with 24" ported vent ribbed turkey barrel. I hack sawed off 5.5", knocked off the vent rib (big pain in the butt), crowned it on a wood lathe with a dremel, and soldered on a Mossberg factory ghost ring sight. The crown looked great and the front sight was straighter than any sight I've seen on one from the Mossberg factory, so I felt pretty good about it. I put on two coats of Krylon Fusion satin black on the barrel, wet sanded, then put on another coat. I did this to fill in a few very small knicks that I made when hacking off the vent rib. The rest of the gun got one coat of satin black Krylon Fusion. Masking tape went on, then the green paint, more tape, then the khaki paint. Here's the Mossberg: http://www.thewolfweb.com/photos/00416763.jpg http://www.thewolfweb.com/photos/00416764.jpg http://www.thewolfweb.com/photos/00416768.jpg http://www.thewolfweb.com/photos/00416772.jpg Here's a pic of a 50 yard target. The bottom shoot-n-see is 5.5" in diameter. That's five shots of Brennekke 2.75" modified foster slugs. Two of the holes are almost perfectly on top of one another (the hole in the middle of those three in line is actually two holes). http://www.thewolfweb.com/photos/00416769.jpg I was pleasantly surprised with the gun. It shot almost exactly to POA without any adjustments. I hit a 12x12" steel plate at 100 yards on the first try too....of course it took me three tries to hit the second steel plate, but I attribute that to user error Note: The pics are really there. Fumbler- Your links don't seem to be working. "This page cannot be displayed"..... I remember your first try. Like I said at the time, I really liked where you were going with it, but it seemed a little too "stark". It sounds like you fixed that on this one! I'm interested in seeing it. I bet it looks good. Can you check the links? Thanks!

Whoops. I just reread your post & caught the last line. Got them to open that time... The last picture looks the best. I think the sunlight brought out more natural coloring on the green... I like it. But (sorry ), the khaki seems awful light. Does it work for your area? If so, great. Overall though, I like this attempt better than your first one. It sure does look like a bunch of work though! How long does it take you to mask it up, spray it, and strip the tape squares? Again, overall, I like it!

I don't know why, but to me the khaki always looks darker in real life than in pictures. For deer hunting it doesn't really matter, it is dark enough that a black and white photo of it would show that the khaki matches the greys of tree trunks. There are also lots of areas I hunt with tall grass. When deer season rolls around the colors should match well. It doesn't really take that long to cut out masking tape. I cut the patterns out of a thick piece of paper and put the tape on it, cut along the edge, then push the middle out and stick that to the gun. Add another piece and do it again. It's just my attention span for doing stuff like that isn't very long I'm gonna get a hold of some industrial Sherwin williams Polane or something similar and do it right one day. Gotta stick to the Kyrlon for now (just finished college and have no job)

That could very well be. You're right about pictures not always be spot on for color. I bet in person it looks super!
Well, that's a college education for you... However, as I'm sure you know, that little diploma will start to open doors & reward you with a bit better paycheck. Congrats!
