I know nothing about shotguns. But, I just acquired a Rem. 1100lwt 20 mag with a 30" full barrel,no choke tubes.
Will this gun also shoot 2 3/4 inch shells ? The gun is for my wife to turke7y hunt with and she is very sensative to recoil.
Also is it possible to buy a shorter bbl for this gun with screw in chokes ? What do I look for to get a BBL thats fits this reciever, reciever says modrel 1100lwt20 magnum. Does this mean I can only get a bbl that fits a magnum reciever ?

Sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you. Either way it's alwasys exciting. Sieze the Day !

First off all barrels made for a 20ga LWT will fit your receiver. My catalog shows a 21" in improved cly or 26" & 28" with tubes.

358, A friend of mine has a 20 ga LW 2 3/4, I have a 20 ga LT 2 3/4. The barrels are NOT interchangable.
Are you sure about the one you have? I am asking because most LT and LW's are 2 3/4 only. The 20 ga mag's for the most part do not shoot 2 3/4 shell worth a hoot. I would not bet that a LT barrel will fit in a mag. I have never stripped a mag to see. Ron

I looked at it again this morning and it says model 1100 LT 20 on the left of the reciever serial no.m887568u and on the port side of the reciever it says magnum just above the trigger guard. The bbl says *20 gage lt 20 - magnum for 3" shells then *** and it is a 28" full.
I tried to shoot some 2/3/4 " light dove loads last night but it won't eject them, I was going to wallys today to get some high brass 2/3/4 to try.
I was looking in a shot shell catalogue and it appears that you can get some 3" field loads in 6 and 7.5, They have the same drams of powder but not not kick as much due to the lighter shot ? If thats the cASE i WON'T WORRY ABOUT THE 2 3/4 SHELLS. But, I really don't like the 28" bbl. I would like a 26" with screw in chokes but the chokes areen't even necessary, a 26 in full or modify would meet my needs. I'm just trying to get the kick down for my wife. Maybe getting lighter 3" loads is the answer if they make such thinks.

I might be wrong here but the reason the 2 3/4" shells won't ejectn is because it could be dirty. First the mag was intended to shoot 3" shells. The action will handle 2 3/4" shell but the ports in the barrel might be different in size. The 1100 uses gas to work the action. The 1100 needs to be clean to work.
First I would recomend that you strip the gun compleatly. Take the bolt trigger assy out and barrel off. Clean the barrel good and make sure you run a pipe cleaner through the ports to make sure they are not partially pluged. This is a place most people forget to clean. CLean the ring that is on the bottom side of the barrel good. Get a new o-ring for the gas system and make sure every part is FULLY cleaned, by this I mean dunked, soaked, and scrubbed. Dunk the triggers assy, in cleaner and let it soak.
I might be wrong again but I think the 1100 mag has smaller ports than the 2 3/4" guns. I know some guys use a drill bit and open the ports a little to help the action to cycle better, consult a gun smith before you do this. My guess is if the gun is clean and has a new o-ring, and if you use STOUT 2 3/4" loads it should work. My loads for chukar, and pheasant should work a 3" gun. They are 1 oz at 1380, and 1 1/8 oz at 1200. Both of these loads should make it work even if they are 2 3/4"
The kick is not bad because of the action. It uses a lot to make it work. My 10 year old son uses them, and my daughter when she was 12 use them no problem.
Keep me posted on this I would like to find out how things work out. Ron

Were you using 7/8oz loads? I found that I had to move up to at least 1oz to get my LT20 to eject consistantly and it's not a magnum..

From my experence with 1100's and 1187's they aren't as picky about being clean as the 7400's have been know to be.

My LT and my friends LW will cycle 1/2 oz loads. I think in most cases like 358's the ports are choaked and the seal needs to be replaced. Ron

Wish mine would, It has a new barrel and the ports are squeaky clean and new seal, heck the gun is almost new but getting it to eject 7/8oz loads is a hit or miss proposition..
