we have a shotgunning area only near here, and my son has a tag for whitetail.... he wants to get a slug barrel for his 870 remington express.. i thought id check with you guys to see what twist and rifled barrel type/lenght would be best for slugs.. i dont know if sabots are alowed, ill check but i doubt it.... is the cantelever set up for a scope on a pump shotgun barrel worth anything or more problems than its worth?.. thanks dave.. hunter, blackpowder shooter, photographer, gemology, trap shooter, duck hunter, elk, deer, etc..

Rifled slug barrels are generally for sabots-- Fosters are used with smoothbores.

http://www.mossberg.com/products/access.asp?type=barrels§ion=access I would go with a cantelever rifled barrel, it will shoot sabot and forster slugs. Accuracy is best with sabots, about 4" @ 100 yards, fosters around 8" @100yds. Mossberg makes barrels to fit your 870. Mossberg no. 91356,intergral scope base 12ga, 24", fully-rifled bore, matte blue, List $170.
