Ithaca Model 51 problem- Need help

I have an older (20-25yrs old) model 57 that jams the action open (back) when fired. Appears some sort of stop or something is missing. I don't remember ever doing something that would cause this. I hadn't shot it in years and this happened about 5yrs ago and it has been sitting ever since. I have it at the gunsmith but he has not looked at it since I don't have any use for it. Just wondering if anyone might know what is wrong or have a breakdown of one, or what the thing might be worth as is or fixed. HELP>
