I'm looking to get a quality 10ga double for this falls goose hunting, but see there is nothing currently avaiable as new ones go. Who made a decent one from years past? Thanks. Everyday I beat my own previous record for number of consecutive days I've stayed alive.

There is a Zabala on gunauction that is right there in Michigan. I had a 12 and it was a nice set up. NRA Life ASSRA Life DRSS Today's Quote: Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Type Zabala into the search over there. There were about 6 that came up last night when I looked. NRA Life ASSRA Life DRSS Today's Quote: Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. I'm sorry it was gunbroker not auction and it's not there now. It was last night! IIRC it was 'hubel458 on here that had it. Al, Why don't you ask them where you can find one? I have seen some (new ones) not too many years ago. www.zabalahermanos.com Lefteris.

I have 2 10 ga doubles. One is marked Zabala, the other ZH made in spain, but they both look almost identicle. They were imported and stamped with Tradewinds Tacoma WA. They are both chopper lump barrels with the Greener cross bolt. I don't know if they would hold up to Steel shot though? If you got an old shotgun and had choke tubes put in, would it hold up to Steel shot? I did see one old 12 ga pump barrel that had a nice bulge near the muzzle from shooting Steel shot. A local shop was reaming full choked barrels to Modified and said that would take care of any problems.

Lar45--Are those two 10ga identical Zabala Mercurys, that I heard tradewinds imported. And where to find some and howmuch do they usually run.Are there a lot of them around, I ask as I no double expert yet.How wide are they across the outside of the barrels at the breech.Look nice and strong. I'm really interested as they look like strong guns for barreling monoblock style for hairy cartridges. ED. MZEE WA SIKU

I've only seen these 2 locally, but have seen some on Gunbroker. I think the prices have been around $450-600+ The closest one says Zabala on the barrel and Mercury on the lever. The far one says ZH-made in spain. The model numbers are really close with only a letter difference. They do look nearly identicle. I'd bet they would hold a 700 NE. You've gone past that with some of your 12gaFH loads. The actions are 1.25" center to center and 2.475 wide at the breach. chamber wall thickness is .180".

Thanks for info Glen. They look as strong or stronger than any double rifle out there, even ones costing big bucks.Ed. MZEE WA SIKU

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=65547793 Here's another one that needs the fore end and trigger gaurd. It's listed as a Matador. that's made by AYA. If you look at the price of most other AYA doubles, they are atleast $10k+ I'm no ex-pert though.

Ed/all, about 1/2 way down the pics of this 10ga, you'll see the extractor and what looks like a little tab. Is this some sorta 3rd type fastener? I was in a shop last week, had the same type of thing, but I never asked to break it down to look closer. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=65492380 Everyday I beat my own previous record for number of consecutive days I've stayed alive.

If that tab is connected to the rib and the extractor moves over it in and out, then it would be similiar to an extra top fastener, like some purdeys.Ed MZEE WA SIKU

I think that one only keeps the extractor alinged. The top view of the action doesn't show any recess for it to go into.

Glen-All- Question-- How would you rig an extractor on big actions like these to do rimless cases, like my 700HE. It does have a real deep extractor groove that would work if I could figure a way to get extractor into the groove. I heard of 458WIN and 460Wea, and 505 Gibbs in doubles and never saw info on how they did it. Just extraction would do for me.Ed MZEE WA SIKU

Glenn, the one I seen last week was simular, there is a slot in the face of the action, but it doesn't come thru the top like a Greener does. I didn't ask to take it apart when I was looking at it, but I'll be over that way in a couple of weeks and will stop in and see. I've seen some that the rib extension goes into the frame but it has a slot in the extension. This will only add strength to resisting the barrels from rotateing. The Doll's Head or Greener crossbolt resists the barrels being pushed away from the frame. Ed- I think the rimless extractors/ejectors are spring loaded to push in towards the chamber. Like on the H&R Handi rifles or a TC Contender. It seems like I saw someplace about an extractor rideing in a slot in the mail extractor body and being spring loaded to push in towards the chamber. I'll have to think on it and see if I remember where and what.
