The SXS is far from becoming obsolete. In fact its gaining in popularity especially in the higher end guns. Look at Tony Galazan who is makeing new A.H. Fox's and Winchester M21. These guns start at about $10,000.00. The cost of clasic American SXS such as Parker, Fox, LC Smith and Winchester are rising drastically. I purchased a Winchester M21 a few years ago for $4000 and could sell it today with a phone call for $7000. I wish my 401K had performed so well.

Another sign that the SXS is here to stay are the various shoots around the country dedicated to the SXS only. No O/U or other configurations allowed.

I surely hope side by side guns aren't becoming obsolete!!!! Give me a side by side with double triggers and fixed chokes (IC &Mod), and I'll be happy. I like nothing better for a field gun than a SxS 20 gage that's reasonably light in weight. I really like the ones Traditions is importing. O/U guns are ok, but I like the old fashioned class of a nice SxS. I can shoot better with my SxS than I can with O/Us too.

I think the pump guns, particularly the Winchester model 12 and the Remington 870, did more to kill side by sides in America than anything else. Prior to their invention, the side by side was the everyman's shotgun, now its a pump.

I sure hope so!!! That would mean less demand and interest, which should lead to falling prices. More for me!!!

I have never had a firing failure with a SXS I sure cant say the same for Auto Shotguns.I cant use a Automatic shotgun for upland birds or rabbits especially. They are way slower and longer. Those Russian Bikals and the new Savage 411 version of them will be around for a while.I never had a single trigger double till I got them I didnt know what I was missing.I still have some double trigger ones.I like single trigger in cold with gloves better.

PC,
I have a friend with a 28 gauge Merkel. He loves the thing. I oculdn't get the same type of deal he did so I bought a 20 gauge New SKB and am very happy with it but those Merkels with case hardened blueing and double triggers really get my juices flowing.

What you said about them looking like a big double rifle is why I want one. I cant afford a big bore double rifle, but having a good sxs will at least look like it. I need a shotgun as well ,so I,m looking for a sxs soon.
