I was wondering if anyone here could tell me anything about this old shotgun. A co-worker was given this for Christmas by his dad, papa didn't know much of anything about it. he's simply curious, wants some history for it.

There's hardly any markings on it, other than a tiny proof mark under the forearm and some numbers there also.

Any help would be appreciated!

There seems to be some text on the rib and the barrels - can you tell us what? Please also tell us the numbers and proofmarks.

The gun looks as a it were a german pre-war, but it could also be belgian.

Fritz

Thanks Fritz, I'll have him make a crude drawing of the proof marks and any other scrpt or numbers on the gun. The proof marks are so tiny,(with my old eyes), I couldn't see them. He said they looked like a bird or eagle. Thanks for your guess, it's intrigueing to find out about old guns like this!

See if it says Suhl anywhere Suhl Germany,

It looks like a any of the Suhl, simmons suhl, JP sauer, merkel type box locks.

I always wondered if any of the old gunsmiths in germany stuck parts in their lunchbox and made a few at home on their "kitchen Table"

It is not a Sauer, as they were markes with the S&S-logo.

Here are some links to info on german markings, "Beschusszeichen":
