I know there are many others, but I want the following features,so I narrowed it down to these 3...I want Camo finish,3 1/2" capability and reasonable price as it will just be a backup to my Autos!...So guys, who has any of the above and your likes/dislikes?? Thanks! Wink

I have the Beneilli Nova Camo 3 1/2, and the BPS wood and blued 3in. I bought the Beneilli as a back up for my super black eagle 3 1/2 mainly as a turkey gun. I have shot a few birds with the Nova and it patterns good, I like the fiberoptic front sight for hunting, all Beneilli's are easy to disable and clean, and the price was very reasonable. Although about a box of 3 1/2in Winchester Supereme no 5's is about all I have shot the gun. I have a frind who took two Nova's to Agentina dove hunting, why I don't know, and he reported no problems with the guns at all. The BPS is a nice gun overall has a better feal to it, and I have shot lots of shells thru it when I was younger dove and quail hunting. I never had any issues with it however, it will short stroke and jam pretty easy if you don't watch what you are doing. However this is part and parcel to pumps in general and was one facter in moving to automatics for high volume shooting. The Browning is a much more traditional feeling gun, and I have seen enough of them in the duck field to know that they last. For strickly a backup gun I would give the nod to the Nova, but it's not that clear-cut and some people absolutly don't like the way that they feel and handle so I would defenitly pick all of them up before purchase.

For a backup gun that is seldom used I'd suggest a pump. I've had a couple finicky autos over the years(and not so much finicky as just needing simple care and cleaning) but I've had some pumps that have sat in a gunrack for several years and then got grabbed and used without issues. I do not think you can get away with doing that with an autoloader 100% of the time.

for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside

The only "problem" I had with the Nova was that it would not cycle shotshells through the action that are loaded longer than 78mm.
The trigger mechanism could be modified slightly to cycle shotshells loaded to about 80.50mm though, like roll crimped slugs in 3.5" hulls.
Don't know if this is also true for the Super Nova.

My first trip I took 2 SXS's , they got too hot for the loader or me to handle.
next trip-- 2 SBE's- not elegant but very functional.

The Novas are good little pumps--just not my cup o' tea.

I'm a bit of a shotgun snob anymore, worked up through the Beretta's and now hooked on the K-80.

That said... I grew up shooting pumps. Model 12 as a kid, 870 as a young adult and more recently won a Nova at a shoot. I still shoot the model 12 for old times sake while hunting sometimes (this past Monday I used it for doves).

I mention all that to say I'm really impressed by the Nova. Yes, its funky but I'm stunned how well it moves. I ran a round of skeet the first time I shot it. It really moves well. To me the sleek classic lines of the m-12 are so much cooler but the Nova swings so much better it isn't funny. I never would have bought one but since I won it and I don't own anything else that's 3.5" I hung on to it. Good balance, very reliable, seems pretty bullet proof and a great value.

Hope that helps.

Not only is the 870 probably the best pump shotgun ever made, it is a true classic, one of the most successful gun designs of all time.

I don't shoot mine very often anymore, but I have four or five of them in the gun room. A couple 12s, a 28, a 410 and I think there's even a 20 around there somewhere. They're outstanding shotguns. I've been shooting a Beretta A302 as my main shotgun for the last 25+ years, but I still love those 870s.

A slicked-up 870 is tough to beat, but I'll go with Kyler on this one and stick to my trusty model 12s and 42s if I get pump fever...

...HOWEVER!!!! Nothing beats a really nice classic 1897 Winchester, now that's the "Sheeat" (as we say here in the south)...Tom, you're a nostalgic kinda guy....Find you a "Trap" model and you'll make the boys at Duck camp drool when you pop that first double on a pair of Greenheads!

Hope you guys have a great season over there!

Kyler - K-80??? I think you meant the Remington 32 version 2.0 lol
