I made a spur of the moment purchase of an AyA #2 in a 28 gauge last Saturday after spotting one at a gun store when in Atlanta. They said it had upgraded wood. I love 28s for quail hunting here in South Georgia but I'm not that familiar with AyA's other than having heard they make a nice gun. I've never shot one. Well, now I own one. It fits me well and I'll be looking forward to following some dogs with it in tow. This gun was previously owned, but I could tell it had been used very little. It has "N164" scripted on the bottom of it. What could that mean? Any thoughts?

AyA No2's are possibly the best value buy in used Euro sidelocks. If that baby is one of the new rounded action no2's, it has the best timber I have ever seen on a no2 - and I have had hands on dozens of them. In fact it is better than most no53 and 56's and some no1's. Enjoy. What are the spec's - barrel length, chokes stock etc? Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

Brian, Yes, the quality of the wood is what first caught my attention when I saw the gun. The barrels are 27" and both have four stars on the underside, which should mean improved cylinders. The underside of one barrel also has engraved in small letters, NE Custom Gun Service Plainfield NH. I suppose this is where the gun was originally ordered or purchased. As I understand it, this gun is a "rounded" model, as that was mentioned when I bought it. What is the significance of that?

Vic, chokes marked **** in British speak are quarter choke, American Improved Cylinder. The "rounded" action thing is just a style of finishing which is currently very fashionable. These guns are normal sidelocks which have been "rounded" off in the finishing and stocking process to remove the flat slabs of the traditional gun and give it a more curved look. Boss have finished guns in this style for a very long time, a lot of spanish makers are currently following this pattern. This "rounded" action should in no way be confused with the Scottish Round Action gun a la Dickson and McKay-Brown which is a completely different animal being a trigger plate action. Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

Thanks for the clarification, Brian. Not knowing AyA's history, I wasn't aware of where the rounded style fit into their production mix. Has this style only been made by them in recent years? Speaking of the British guns, I'm looking forward to visiting both Purdey and Holland and Holland when I'm in London in a couple of weeks. As much as I'll admire what I see there, it may well make me appreciate the relative bargain I found on this little AyA even more!

Spring, Congrats on the AYA. They are, IMO, a tremendous value for the money. I have the same gun in 16 ga., 29" barrels, full and modified. I absolutely love mine, and I think you'll love yours as well. Good shooting ! Best regards, Brad Starcevich

Vic, I would be surprised if that gun was more than 5 or 6 years old. This style has really only been available from Spain over the past 10 years or so. I am sure if you call New England Custom with the serial number, they can probably tell you when they brought the gun into the USA. Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....
