A H FOX SHOTGUN QUESTION

Hi Folks,
I found an interesting old AH Fox shotgun ( I am pretty certain it is a pre Savage purchase gun)at a local pawn shop that I need help identifying for certain.

It appears to be a field grade gun without a great deal of fancy checkering on the stock or high grade finish on the metal.

The only serial number that I found was 33555 engraved on the bottom of the receiver. The gun has a rib with 1 bead and some INFIDEL has cut the barrels to 24 inches and put some sort of varnish type substance on the buttstock.

The reference material I have on hand seems to indicate the piece was made in the early years of the 20th century.

Does anyone have any ideas/information on Fox guns in this serial # range?

Thanks for the help.

HBB

This link has some serial numbers and dates of manufacture for A.H. Fox. Depends on grade and gauge.

Does it have Sterlingworth on the receiver? All of the SW I have seen are marked on the side of the receiver.
Any engraving. Ejectors or extractors?

I have 12 Ga. AE number 330XX. I has an A on the inside bottom of the receiver, A small amount of deep engraving. And marked made by Savage on the barrels.

Assuming yours is an A or AE grade in 12 GA, it looks like 1928.

My Savage-Fox B actually was sold new with 24" barrels--odd length and looks a little funny, but shoots well. Chuck
