Hi Folks, I found an interesting old AH Fox shotgun ( I am pretty certain it is a pre Savage purchase gun)at a local pawn shop that I need help identifying for certain. It appears to be a field grade gun without a great deal of fancy checkering on the stock or high grade finish on the metal. The only serial number that I found was 33555 engraved on the bottom of the receiver. The gun has a rib with 1 bead and some INFIDEL has cut the barrels to 24 inches and put some sort of varnish type substance on the buttstock. The reference material I have on hand seems to indicate the piece was made in the early years of the 20th century. Does anyone have any ideas/information on Fox guns in this serial # range? Thanks for the help. HBB [ 05-21-2003, 01:42: Message edited by: hillbillybear ]

This link has some serial numbers and dates of manufacture for A.H. Fox. Depends on grade and gauge. http://www.gunshop.com/dgsnos1.htm Does it have Sterlingworth on the receiver? All of the SW I have seen are marked on the side of the receiver. Any engraving. Ejectors or extractors? I have 12 Ga. AE number 330XX. I has an A on the inside bottom of the receiver, A small amount of deep engraving. And marked made by Savage on the barrels. Assuming yours is an A or AE grade in 12 GA, it looks like 1928.

My Savage-Fox B actually was sold new with 24" barrels--odd length and looks a little funny, but shoots well. Chuck
