I have a Parker repro and plan on keeping it forever, it just works really well for me. If you are lucky you can find one within your budget, and if you take care of it it will just keep appreciating.

The CZ Ringneck is a quite serviceable SxS made on a true 28 gauge frame, making it a sleek little gun that gives you alot for what you pay; however I think you are interested in a considerably higher grade shotgun, so the RBL is a likely candidate.

Kinda defeats the point of a 28ga.

Plus, I've got a 12ga CZ ringneck and while it's a good starter SxS shotgun, it's heavy and more importantly I've broken two of them. (where I sent them back and CZ sent me a new one). I might be a wee bit jaded on the CZ shotgun thing.

They have some of their RBL 28 ga guns on sale right now, 28", 6#, might check them out. I have not played with one but have heard nothing but good about them.

Not sure where you got that information. I own a Ringneck 28 and although I haven't had occassion to weigh it, I'm sure it is sub 6-pounds, or close to it. I'm pretty sensative to "heavy" shotguns, which is one reason I bought the little CZ.

Sorry you've had poor luck with the CZ's. I've had no problems thus far in about 5 dove seasons with mine, but as with any shotgun in this price range you can expect their QC to vary and will undoubtedly find some lemons in their inventory.

As I say, the RBL is probably a good candidate to soak up the bills you're willing to spend on a really nice SxS. I've felt the magnetic pull of the RBL on my pocketbook, but have thus far been able to successfully resist it. (That's my wife applauding the availablity of those funds for her more frivolous activities.)

Have you looked at the Weatherby D'Italia in 28 gauge? Made in Italy and a great SXS shotgun. I have one in both 20 and in 28.

got that information from their (CZ's) own website.

Weigh it, you'll be shocked I bet. i was shocked my 12ga CZ weighed over 8lbs.

Here are the specs taken directly from the CZ website on the Ringneck 28 gauge. I suspect that the wieght is pretty close, although factory specs are often a few ounces off. They show the Bobwhite at .1 lb lighter, which makes sense due to its configuration.

well you're right, their website is now different than the distributors page I was looking at.

My Ringneck weighs like 8.6 lbs

I think they have some short scales.

but next time I'm in the local gunstore I'll go check. 5.7lbs is really light, it should be obvious if they are lying.

not that I trust their manufacturing ability after going thru 2 of the 12ga's.

One of the things that makes a low-cost gun, car, house, or meal low in cost is a lower standard of materials and workmanship. Sometimes you get lucky and get a good one. Sometimes it is the opposite. I only own one of these Huglu-produced shotguns and it's working fine for me, but I don't doubt that there are plenty of them that exhibit a problem of one sort or another. The one thing I can't complain about are its slender lines and light weight.

so, wandered off to the gun show today and someone there had a Ugartechea, boxlock 12ga.
so, i got to check that out.
nice, light, good matching of metal to the wood. (sealed up, so couldn't see the lockwork), but wasn't bad.

so, update on an old post.
went into my favorite high end fun store about 4 or 5 times and finally bought a AyA 4/53 boxlock SxS 28ga, 29 inch barrels, splinter fore-end, english stock and clearly my perfect measurements.

i bought the aya #4 28 gauge that i still have back in 1978. i found it was choked to tight for the upland shooting behind dogs that i do. had the chokes opened up a bit and it still amazes the guys i hunt with that it actually kills things.

I shot some sporting clays with it the other day and i was AMAZED at how far out it would literally dust things. (if I did my part)

Oooooorrrr you could go with the AyA 4/53!

I have an Ugartechea Grade II 28 ga. and it weighs almost a perfect 5 pounds, and knocks the heck out of SD pheasants. I have a good friend who bought the CZ/Huglu, and it probably doesn't weigh 7 pounds, but it is probably 6.5, at least it is noticeably heavier. It is really muzzle heavy, I think the weight is due to thicker barrels so they can be threaded for choke tubes. I have never really understood choke tubes on a double, just go Imp/Mod and go kill some birds. They AYA is a super gun, I looked at a lot of them, but the Uggy handles and shoots as well, for less $$$
