Well, the Silencer Shop is showing 350+ days for Form 4 w/trust processing.

When I got my units, the wait was only 5 or 6 months. Does anyone have any idea why, more than a year after the implementation of 41f, wait times are so sloooow, to purchase what is essentially a safety device?

It's because there was a HUGE volume of applications submitted before July 31, 2016. Silencer Shop alone submitted 250,000.

I'm hoping there's a sharp drop off at the end and things can go back to a semblance of sanity. I'm jonesing for a couple more suppressors, but I'll make due until the wait is something more reasonable.

I just ordered a can the other day through SilencerShop.

Between the new nearly-instantaneous Form 3 approvals, the new bar code system, and the passage of 13 months since the 41F deadline plus the reluctance of many to subject themselves to an(other) interminable wait, I'm hoping to get my stamp in eight months or less.

Of course, if HPA or SHUSH passes, I'll get it sooner but then I'll have to wait for my refund. Big Grin

Hey guys...
Is there any way to follow up on the status of one?
I have one that's been over 380-400 days now...
Can one inquire into the governmental black hole to check? If there was an issue how would you know

You can call NFA Branch in WV 304-616-4500.

Provide the clerk with your last name (or name of the trust/LLC) and the serial number of the NFA item.

Well, so much for the Hearing Protection Act.

You're welcome and congratulations!

Get yourself a new dealer; there is no "processing" per se fror them to do before you show up to pick up your stamp, certainly nothing that would take weeks.

True George...I didn't perhaps use the best term... I guess I was politely saying they screwed up. Said they didn't get the Tax Stamp from the Feds (I assume it was inadvertently. Mishandled)
Seems like the smart thing due to the huge waits would be to buy say two or three at a time for whatever guns you wish to use them with!
But I'm pretty happy now!!! I have a suppressed SIG MCX in both 7.62 and .300 Blackout to play with
Now....do I mount a night Vision scope too!

I hear about this ineptitude/lassitude on the part of dealers often.

They KNOW you've just waited 6-15 months for your item, and they just stick in an inbox for a couple of weeks. Roll Eyes

I keep close tabs on my NFA applications and my dealer knows I can be there in five minutes to pick my stuff up. Big Grin

Any way, enjoy your can. What did you buy?

I got a SIG silencer made for the platform. The configuration of the Sig MCX is supposedly tailor made for suppression...the silencer fits very nicely with a low profile on the end.
I'm hoping that with Subsonic Ammo it will be really fun to play with.

Ask the Silencer Shop if the 350+ days is what the ATF is taking, or is that what the combined wait including the Silencer Shop. I purchased 2 cans in November 2016. The Silencer Shop took my money in a very efficient manner. I already had a trust established. I finally received my cans yesterday (13 months). My application wasn't submitted by the Silencer Shop until February of this year. Time to find someone else ....

I recently learned a lesson on dealer selection.

I wanted to go with updated cans (lighter in weight and shorter than the ones I got a couple years ago). Ordered one from a smallish local dealer and initially got some 'happy talk' about the ordering process. I made my purchase and then went through several weeks of run-around. Since he didn't have the unit in stock, he had to order it and had to get his ATF approval in hand BEFORE my paperwork could be submitted to ATF. And for several weeks there was issues with his license renewal so an Oct 1st purchase didn't get submitted to ATF until Jan 5th. The assistance in getting the paperwork filled out was marginal as well.

While all this was going on I was doing a slow burn. I made contact with a large volume dealer about 200 miles away that had another unit I wanted in stock. Wife and I made a day-trip drive over there; they took my photo/fingerprints on site, had the entire process completed in a little over an hour, and the packet to West Virginia was promptly mailed out.

P.S. For Colorado residents I HIGHLY recommend Mile High Shooting Accessories in Frederick (north side of Denver Metro area).

The clock begins ticking when you buy the can. Then, Silencer Shop has to wait for the Form 3 to be approved by NFA Branch before they can submit the Form 4. One of my cans was delayed by eight weeks for Form 3 processing alone.

Then, there is the wait time at NFA Branch, plus the time it takes for the stamp to arrive at the dealer.

George, did I mis-understand? If the dealer has the can in stock-issued to them, is there still a built in delay for NFA Form 3 before my submittal can be sent in?

Also, how does one check on 'status' of your paperwork with NFA? Other than knowing something is progressing because the $200 check has been cashed?

No Form 3 is needed if your in-state dealer has the item in stock.

I was referring to Silencer Shop (and other out-of-state dealers).

So if the Silencer Shop is in Austin, and I'm in Katy, TX - would they not be an "in-state" dealer for me?

Yes, they would be. I didn't notice analog_peninsula's location.

However, the charts on Silencer Shop's web site (from NFATracker.com) include Form 3 processing where applicable.

I buy cans from silencer Shop, but they are not in Nevada so a Form 3 is necessary for my purchases.

The Silencer Shop also has associate dealers who will perform transfers with no additional fees. If you live within the state of Texas, there appear to be quite a number of them and one might be considerably closer to you physically than Austin.

Correct, and a transfer to those in-state associates would require a Form 3.
