Maybe a little carried away, but I just received my fourth rimfire suppressor. I now have (2) Dead Air Mask, (1) Texas Silencer co scoundrel and (1) Banish.

I bought the first three from Silencer Co in Texas and the last from Silencer Central.

I thought both outfits were top notch and I'm plotting my next two purchases.

The Texas Scoundrel is a monocore and the other three are cone baffles. I bought the monocore last, thinking I'd not be as happy with the cones, I was wrong.

The Dead Air Mask is crazy quiet and if I use 1200fps .22 ammo in my Browning Buckmark the ammo doesn't go supersonic and all you can hear is the semi auto action cycle. The Scoundrel on my Ruger 22/45 is nearly as quiet. The Banish has quite a " first round snap," but the following shots are quiet on par with the others.

I think I bought them solely based on the neato factor but I do see applications for me. First, un expected game bird opportunities would greatly benefit. Ptarmigan and Spruce Grouse are just made for silenced .22s. Second, the kids like to plink while out and about and this eases the availability and opportunity.

Dead Air claims a no need to clean until 2500 rounds and I'm going to aim for that. The Texas Scoundrel is easier to clean because it' monocore but I think I'll let it get good and dirty first. Taking the Scoundrel apart to inspect is seconds.

These things are slick! I live out in the Sticks so local and unplanned/ unsupervised shooting is normal but being quiet makes it better.

I have several suppressors. I wish I had my money back for all of them except the ones for 22's. They are beyond cool!

I don't know about the 6.8 or the 45 but I've started using cans on everything from 20 Practical through 300 RUM and will never go back!

I love love love them!

I don’t like suppressors on pistols and ar.

Everything else - bolts, single shots - love them.

Need another one for 338 Lapua/ 300 Norma.

Favorite is Silencerco Omega 300 and Thunder Beast TBAC 5.56. I have a dozen suppressors. Some are paper weights - some get shot a lot.

To me its not worth the trouble......!makes the rifles long and cumbersome. Doesnt, in my opinion reduce the noise enough to really matter. And the recoil? Those you mentioned don't have enough real recoil to much matter.

In my opinion they just aren't much "bang" for the buck.

I have one for a 1911 in 45acp.....its cool but it blocks the sights....and ain't all that quiet.....

Imo....you need to really shorten a barrel to keep the rifle from becoming unwieldy and as I'm sure you know 18" is minimum without another expensive tax stamp. And not that many rifle calibers are very efficient with that short of a barrel.....

.22 long rifle is A whole different story.

Just my opinion my friend.......

I have never heard anyone say that before. But, I guess everyone has their preferences. Maybe you don't use yours like I use mine or maybe you had unrealistic expectations from them?

I use mine on AR's in 5.56 300 BLK, .308 and 6.5 Grendel. I also use them on some bolt guns, 300 win mag, 7 Mag, 300 BLK, 260 Rem and 308.

I have hunted a lot with them and seen others hunt with them. I have seen the effects of suppressed vs unsuppressed on deer, Pronghorn and Aoudad. In addition to bringing the boom down to acceptable levels, it doesn't scare game like an unsuppressed gun does.

Miss a Pronghorn, and he's probably going to be gone pretty fast. I have sen on two occasions Pronghorn not flinch to multiple missed shots with a suppressed rifle. They definitely heard it, but it didn't register as a gunshot I guess. I have seen deer not move after a shot, they went right back to eating wheat.

Pigs? They run. Even with subsonics ... and I have killed a truckload of pigs with suppressed bolt and AR in 300 BLK. I swear it doesn't make much difference with a pig.

BTW, I will put my subsonic 300 BLK model 7 bolt gun up against your 22 Big Grin its stupid quiet!

Definitely do! I have an Omega 300 and a Saker 30 cal as well. On the way, a 45 Hybrid (Hopefully very soon) a 5.56 saker that will take another 6 months (Booo), an Octane 45 and an Octane 9 on order from Silencerco.

That Omega is an incredible can. You can not beat it! I wish I would have gotten another Omega instead of a 5.56 Saker now.

I use the Omega on my 300 BLK bolt action rifle that I bought on a whim and it is now my favorite rifle. It goes everywhere on the ranch with me.

The Saker I have used on 260, 6.5 Grendel and 300 Win Mag. Im amazed at how quiet a 300 win mag is with that Saker. (The Saker is now called the Silencerco Chimera).

Get an Omega. You will not regret it!

So my novice thoughts; if we're not going supersonic then the noise is from the action cycling and the bullet impact. That is my impression with the 22s. I had a friend shooting my stuff this last week and that is what I heard.

The 45 ACP I thought would be similar. Fine, bigger bullets, more powder and more bang but we're not going super sonic.

The 6.8 will be supersonic so I'll have that sonic crack along with the other.

I have cans on everything but you are right Scott, you still get the supersonic crack on supersonic ammo.

I just hate wearing ear protection, and the can also reduces the recoil to so I can keep the sight picture on some things.
