Another try for the .270 Newton case, I still need one for my collection. I only collect Newton cases, and are still missing this one...

Buying or trading.

For some reason the 270 Newton cases (Speer) are very hard to find. I have been collecting cartridges for a long time and have only one.

The stories that I hear are that the Speer brass, in all the Newton calibers, was not very good quality and the necks split or the primer pockets expanded after just one or two firings. So, it may be that most of the 270 cases were discarded. I do have several boxes of 30 and 35 Newton (Speer) in their original boxes.

Ray,

Yes, the .270 Newton cases are very hard to find. I don't think they were produced in large numbers. But I'm hoping that someone may have a case to spare.

The Speer brass may not be of the best quality, but it is possible to use it. The Western Cartridge brass however are not very good.

I am interested in your Speer cases for the .30 and .35 Newton. I will soon be finished with a custom rifle in .30 Newton, and just left an order for a reamer for the .40 Newton...

So if you have any brass to sell or trade, I would be interested, both .30 and .35.

Please send a PM if you have some to spare.

Yes, I have been in contact with Pete at QC. They are tooled up for making the brass, but have not started production yet.

8x68S brass can be used, but it is a lot of work. I have some formed Hirtenberger 8x68S, and they are slightly undersized. I have a Wilson case gauge, and that show that the 8x68S cases, at least the Hirtenberger cases, are slightly undersized. Do you fireform your cases?

The Speer brass sizes perfectly...

The reamer I am using, is an original from the factory and gives a big enough casehead that the .375 Ruger brass can be used, at least for the .40 Newton. And it can be used... Or you can do it the old way, and neck up the .35 Newton case.

So anyway, I'm interested in both .30 and .35 Newton Speer brass.

And the .270 of course...

Thanks for the links.

I have checked a couple of them before, but no .270 Newton case to be found.

So I'm still looking.

I collected Newtons for 23 years. Had 45 rifles and a lot of ammunition of all types, including a box of Speer hs 270 Newton cases. Some knothead necked them up to 30 Newton. There were even some N.A. Co. 30 Adoph shells, and two or three 30 Newton Express rounds on the big 40-90 SS case. It's all scattered to the winds now.
