I was looking at Remington's Web site on the history of the M700 and the show a 6mm Rem Mag produced from 63 to 66. Anyone know about this cartridge? http://www.remington.com/aboutus/history/m700.htm Youth and vitality are wasted on the young.

I don't believe that there was ever a 6mm Rem Mag cartridge chambered in the 700, however, according to Lacy's book on Remington 700s, a few 700s were roll stamped "6MM REM MAG" and then the "MAG" was over-stamped or x'd out. I have a 700 ADL carbine with that barrel stamp on it. IIRC, there is a copy of a Remington memo regarding this issue in Lacy's book. The rifles with that barrel stamp are uncommon, as they were only stamped that way for a month or so before the problem was resolved and new roll stamps installed at Ilion. Remington should be more specific in the information that they provide. Jeff

Hi .260 Rem guy is correct, I looked the 6mm Rem Mag up in the M700 book, and he has the information right on the money. In other words, another marketing ploy for the 6mm Remington. LLS
