No referancs with me, but IIRC your discription is correct for the 14 Jones, that is a 22lr necked down to 14

I stand to be corrected but Alton Jones was a gunsmith in Oregon ( Pacific Northwest anyway )in the mid part of last century - 1950's- and made several proprietory calibre firearms both rimfire and centerfire. I recall a .265 centerfire as one of them . The necked down .22 was based on the LR case , came in several shoulder-angle variants and is found with both solid and hollow point . Various manufacturers cases were used so there is more than one headstamp . Hope that helps a little . ________________________ Old enough to know better

I am guessing that you mean the .22-3000 R2 Lovell cartridge , found with the Griffin and Howe headstamp ...? If so - the cartridge dates from about 1934 , was developed by Hervey Lovell and was quoted as having a muzzle velocity of 3000fps with a 40 grain projectle. This is one of the many small calibre wildcat cartridges of the era , but differs from most in that factory produced and marked cartridge cases were produced for it , as opposed to most wildcats which use a parent case so headstamped . I would guess that this is one of the better known wildcats , although the case headstamp incorrectley identifies the calibre name . ________________________ Old enough to know better
