So what's this? A bottle neck of about 1" cal.
Case 163mm/about 6 3/8"

Base/rim 42mm : Head 43mm : Neck 23mm long:

Sholder 16mm long : Body about 4 5/8"
Head stamps looks like crown over an "E". Then
S (and ) 9 over 17 ; then an anchor.
Primer is set in an insert OD 0.640 and ID of 0.395 and also has the crown E thingy and another anchor.

My mate said it seems Military. . . Now that must be a clue. Roll Eyes

Oh well, we're a small town.

Military without a doubt. The anchors usually signify a Navy round. 1" would mean probably a 25mm of which there are many.

Take a look at the photos on this site and see if you can pick it out. Let me know.

Heck, I see the problem.

None looked like this case, the 23-28mm group had the 25x163 Hotchkiss, but it was obviously thicker, like a WSM compared to a standard cart.
My guess would be a British case seeing as it's here.

Go to Tony's Home Page. Send him an e-mail with a description (a photo would be better) and he may be able to identify it. He's a Brit.
