According to the Gilgit-Baltistan Wildlife Department, Millman hunted the rare species in the Sasi region, with the markhor’s horns measuring 42 inches. He paid a permit fee of $160,000, making it the final hunt of the season. Wildlife official Khadim Abbas confirmed that four Astore Markhor hunting permits were issued this year which have now been utilized. Earlier, American hunter Justin Ryan Falatok hunted another Astore markhor in the Bunji CCHA after securing a permit for $150,500. Similarly, Bryan Kinsel Harlan, also from the U.S., hunted one in Roundu village, Skardu, for the same fee. The first Astore markhor of the season was hunted by Spanish national Carlos Mallo Alvarez on January 23 in the Jutal area. His markhor had 44-inch horns, and he also paid $150,500 for the permit. This season’s auction process faced multiple hurdles, with bids initially falling below expectations. After failed attempts in October and November, permits were sold on a “first-come, first-served” basis, securing prices between $150,500 and $160,000.
