All last year I have been dreaming that the begining of 2011 would be a very happy time. We have booked 2 booths at SCI to welcome the reopening of hunting in China. However, the actual results seem to always be the opposite of our expectations! My Chinese colleagues and I are very disappointed that we are not yet able to clearly give good news about Chinese hunting reopening during this year's international hunters' event. So the hunting products I can provide at this year's show include only some wild boar hunting in China as well as Sheep hunting in Nepal, Mongolia, Pakistan and Iran (as in the past 4 years.)

Naturally I hate this four and half year state of "suspension." However, I still feel positive based on the following:

1) The Vice Director of the China Wildlife Department expressed his reopening determination to all outfitters of China in January of 2010.
2) The Endangered Species Scientific Commission of China co-hosted an international conference on Trophy Hunting for Conservation with SCI and WSF(FNAWS) in July. There were more than 60 participants comprised of 30 Chinese and foreign scientists, 20 national and provincial wildlife officials and 10 journalists. The final recommendation letter of the conference was very positive and was handed officially to the Vice Director at end of the conference.
3) The Chinese government has decided to be a national member of CIC in 2011.
4) The Wildlife Department has accepted in November our applications for Blue Sheep hunts for some foreign hunters. Now we are waiting for the demonstration meeting which will be held in the second half of February or early March (though we had hoped it would be held in December or January before the SCI Convention.)

There have been quite a few hunters asking for updates on the reopening, but in the past year I haven't replied to most of them because I worry that my reputation will suffer if my expectations are always too positive as they have been during this 5 year suspension.

Now I believe:
That the foreign trophy hunting program, which lasted 25 years in China, has benefited the local economies, benefited local habitat and wildlife and benefited wildlife conservation.

Now I believe:
That China needs this type of industry, not just manufacturing of export goods marked "Made in China". Hunting is a GREEN business!

Now I believe:
That we will be able to hunt in near future.

I will continue to fight for the right for international hunters to pursue "fair chase" hunting in my country!

See you in Reno soon at my booth #1273.

2011 should be a great year!
