I am headed to Kyrgyzstan to Hunt Mid Asian Ibex the first part of October. I am going to check the cape and horns and Export them myself. Has anyone checked a Cape and Horns out of Kyrgyzstan as checked baggage? I have cleared a Buff into the U.S. myself before. It is no big deal.I have already contacted Fish and Game in New York at JFK Airport. And have started an EDec.

Hello sir, You would possibly not be able to do that unless you have all the Kyrgyzstan vetrinary certificates etc in order. Some years ago you might have done it, but in the recent years things have developed. Unless you have some days extra etc I think this will be difficult. This is my experience from 5 hunts in the " stan " countries ! Morten The more I know, the less I wonder !

Hello Slider There are problems with doing that. You will need a CITES permit from Kyrgyzstan confirming the sub species and country of origin because Pakistan has listed the Himalayan Ibex on appendix III, hence USFW now requires even the non listed Ibex such as Mid Asian to have a CITES permit, as well as Veterinary certificate and a copy of the local hunting license. Your outfitter will provide these. The reason for being cautious and using a broker is that the Agricultural inspector may not let you take the trophy out if he thinks the skin is moist or finds meat on the edges of the cape. The other problem is that you have to inform the USFW inspectors 48 hours before expected arrival, so they may decide to do the inspection as you come in or defer it for a later date. All this means your trophy will sit in the airline freight storage area instead of your USFW approved taxidermist, while the above are sorted out. A broker can expedite all this and they have their own approved storage areas so even the wet skins can be released to them and can then be shipped to your taxidermist, before they they clear it with USFW. It is worth the $350-400, you pay them. Regards Aziz

I understand the $350 for clearing into the U.S. but I would also have to pay Shipping? I am not sure what the shipping would be to Seattle,WA.? $2000? I don't want to risk losing the Cape so I am willing to have it shipped if it needs to be. Hence my questions.

Hello Slider From those countries you should always bring the trophies with you as accompanying luggage ($160). I have done that multiple times without problem as long as the outfitter has the CITES permit, Veterinary certificate and the hunting license ready for you when you depart. You should discuss it with the outfitter and tell them that you will be taking the trophy with you. Don't give them an option. I always have the Customs broker meet me at the US Customs inspection area for reasons discussed in my previous post. Regards Aziz

Thanks Aziz. I am still trying to get confirmation from the Outfitter. I have already contacted Fish and Wildlife in JFK and they told me they have a Board in their office and would put my name.arrival date and time on it. Then someone in the office would work the overtime the evening I get in. At an additional $100 fee. I would spend the night in NY and fly to Seattle non stop at 7:00 the next mourning. What about a shipping Container? I was thinking about using one of these. http://www.cabelas.com/product...rch%3Dwater%2Bduffle

Hello Slider Get a large thick canvas duffel bag, some thing you can get from an army surplus store. You want a bag that can breathe. If the skin is completely dry you don't have to worry about fluid leakage and it will let the skin air and reduce the risk of hair slippage. Hope you are planning to fly Turkish airways.I have had no trouble with rifles on that airline and have made 6-7 trips. Regards Aziz

We were told three to five days to get all the paperwork. $450 later and we had it the next day. I'd do everything in my power to ensure you could bring them home with you, even if it meant spending an extra day or two in Bishkek to get the paperwork complete. I'm sure your outfitter will have it figured out.

Slider get a 50 inch by 30 inch, you can alway fold and duck tape once the trophy is in it to make it a smaller package. This one will work well, go to http://www.benmeadows.com/canvas-duffel-bags and look up Canvas Duffel Bag, 50"L x 30" dia., Black Aziz
