In 2008 USFWS issued three import permits and in 2009 no import permits were issued for High Altai Argalis.

Does anyone know if any import permits will be issued this year?

Thank you.

I don't know, but I bet you Bob Kern at the Hunting Consortium (www.huntingconsortium.com) would know.

Seems like each year our places and species to hunt shrinks ever smaller. Frowner

Sevens,

Thanks for the information. The Hunting Consortium is the Agent my husband is booked with for his High Altai in 2012 (originally 2011).

It seems the backlog of hunters is getting bigger and bigger as no import permits are being issued.

I was just wondering if someone had any "inside scoop" on the permit situation.

He is seriously considering cancelling the hunt and doing a Desert Bighorn in Mexico instead.

He says he will be a 100 years old by the time he gets an import permit.

Thanks again.

I wouldn't blame your husband. I have a friend who has been trying to get a Transcaspian Urial hunting permit for what seems like the past decade. I think he finally gave up and switched his deposit to something else.

What about a Takin hunt in China? Not sure if they're still open for hunting, but they're a unique trophy.

Do you know if there is import permit issues with the Gobi and Hangai Argali?

For what it's worth, back in December, I asked a guy who sets up a lot of international sheep hunts if he thought they'd ever issue high altai import permits again, and he said he was fairly certain they would not.

Sevens,

Gobi and Hanghai are no problem. For some reason the hang up is with the High Altai.

Golden Takin are definitely on his wish list, but once again when will China open.
