The wildlife department officials after receiving information that a Markhor of Kashmiri origin had sustained wounds on leg and was laying at Toshi forests, rushed to the spot and shifted it to the office of Divisional Wildlife Officer, Imtaiz Hussain Lal for treatment. A team of veterinary doctors were immediately called in for medical help that provided extensive treatment to the animal. The condition of the Markhor was stable and out of danger, the doctors said. According to DFO Imtaiz Hussain, about 2500 markhor are present in Chitral and is a great source of generating foreign exchange through Markhor Hunting Program.
