Marco Polo sheep bring $600 thousand to Tajikistan's budget


Bishkek (AKIpress) - marco polo sheep More than 3 million somoni ($597.5 thousand) were received in the budget of Tajikistan for permission to hunt Marco Polo sheep, Head of the State Protection of Plants and Animals Department Abdukodir Maskayev told a press conference in Dushanbe.

Permissions to hunt 80 sheep were issued during the hunting season of 2013-2014. 67 animals were killed.

One hunting permission costs 45 thousand somoni ($9 thousand).

“This animal is mainly hunted by citizens of the U.S., Europe, Mexico and South Africa. U.S. citizens received 45 permissions this season,” Maskayev added.

The total number of Marco Polo sheep living in Tajikistan comprises 24 thousand.
