For those that have hunted Ibex in Kyrgyzstan, did you feel a spotting scope was useful to bring? It's a lot of weight so would like to leave it if possible.

They are a pain to carry, but can save you time getting closer to check out a herd, if you can see there is nothing there worthy of shooting. Arjun

I most definetly would take a spotting scope. I have hunted ibex there, and i had mine with me, as i do on any sheep/ goat hunt. Your guide will not have one, in fact i always take an extra bino with me cause he may not have a pair himself. You can always leave them in camp. Have a great time, it is an awesome place. I took some cup o soup or some freeze dry with me. You never know what you will get on these hunts.

I took one to Kyrgystan and my guide ended up carrying it and using it like a monocular. He loved it and ended up not having to carry it. I carry a day pack anyway so I would have had it otherwise. I say take it.

The big ones stand out. Till nov they are bunched up, so not too hard to see which is biggest in the group. Lot of the time you will be glassing off horseback, so carrying is not an issue. Take it if it makes you feel better. Good binos will do the job just as well. For me it's just more excess baggage to pay for. ...."At some point in every man's life he should own a Sako rifle and a John Deere tractor....it just doesn't get any better...."
