L. David KeithMario, my good friend and PH in Australia talked to me for some time recently about Sambar in Australia. He told me of all the wild game he had hunted in his life, the Sambar was the most wary and elusive he had ever encountered. They are on high alert 24/7. He used to spend weeks amongst them, watching, learning and hunting them. He invited me down under to hunt them, I believe during March was the optimum time. There are times you do not venture into their domain, as there are Tiger snakes everywhere.
Cheers,
David

cameronaussieDear Mario
I can help you with hunting the Sambar in Australia.
I can ensure you one of the hardest hunt ever.
They are so smart.
There is one in every gully but finding one and shooting one.
Well after 10 year I trying I still dont have a true trophy. (in measured size any way)
David has summed it up well.
If you want to hunt one feel free to send me an email: mark.mclean@rocketmail.com
Regards Mark
Thanks for the offer but I was looking a Sambar in his original range. Good luck for your real trophy.

If you are lucky please let me know. I would definetly love to hunt in SE-Asia. I think there is no more hunting in those countries.
Caracal,
Harvey Hollek was offering hunts in Vietnam in the past. But is a difficult men to reach.

Dina,
I tried many times to send send e.mails to mr Hollek without answers.

Hawkeye47Mario,
I just booked an Ibex hunt with Harv and have e-mailed and spoke with him on the phone.
I hunted the Sambar in the Wanangatta Mountains in Australia and it was the toughest hunt of my life. It was a wonderful hunt and we were close enough we could smell the stench from the rutting males but never got a shot at a big one.
The snakes were bad and if the sun came out they were out sunning even if there was ice from the night before.

Hawkeye47Mario,
The trophy Sambar in Australia is very much like a mature Whitetail where hunting pressure is great. They become almost nocturnal and will lay up in stuff so thick that it's almost imposible to stalk them. Very Very dificult to shoot.
