Got back Monday from the Tien Shan Mountains. Hunt was great. The camp I had was very clean, comfortable and well stocked. After I arrived, I asked if there was a shower. They said no, but you can use the sauna!!! The "building" directly in front in the photo is the kitchen and dining room. There was always plenty of food and cooked well. "buildings" on each side were sleeping rooms. I can post more photos if anyone is interested.
I shot the ibex at 251 yards right off of a cliff as they (group of 5) were climbing. This one was the biggest of the group. 10 1/2 year old billy. Guides were very good and friendly as were the camp staff. Coming out an interpreter from another camp said we (those in our camp) had it good. Seems their camp was double booked, lacked food and everyone on edge. I felt very fortunate as ours ran very smoothly. I think theirs was handled by the Ministry of Wildlife or Hunting or something like that.

Great looking billy. If you don't mind, how long was he? He is tight curled & those give me fits judging them.

Looks warm still in the pics. How was the weather?

We are one month out now.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

Congrats!

Good job, Doug.
Excellent ibex. Looks at least 48" to me.
You say this was the biggest, but how did the other 4 look?

profyhunter got it. Wonder how? Anyway, I booked the hunt with profyhunter (Igor) at extrem-tours. The hunt was handled well and conducted as promised. He apologized about his English but it was never a problem and we communicated well. Even when, through a problem airline flight, I was able to call him and reach him, I am sure through his phone forwarded to his cell. I am sure I bothered him with emails and questions but replies were always timely and forthcoming. I must reiterate the camp was very good.

Weather??

Did you bring back your trophy with you (assuming you are a US citizen/resident)? If so, care to share your steps you took?

Thanks and congrats on the fine billy.

Scottyboy,
To bring back my trophy I took a large top loading duffle back made out of a kind of body bag material. However I did not use it. The outfitter packaged the horns, hide and skull cap seperately all wrapped in Saran Wrap like a shrink wrap. I had enough room in my regular duffle to put them all and brought them home that way. It was overweight but I think it beat paying for another bag. Was easier anyway. Make sure you come in through a usfw/customs approved point of entry and declare them. You can go onto the USFW site and print off the declaration form;I think it is D-177 but am not sure without looking it up. There are some instructions on the site too that you will need. It includes some abbreviations necessary for the form. The form is not too difficult to fill out. Being a little paranoid I always print out more than one copy. You list yourself as the importer and the exporter. Other than that, not much else. You will need to make absolutely sure you get a license, export permit and veterinary permit in the country of origin, with stamps, USFW want these. Hope that helps.

Thanks Doug for the report. I think the full curl horns are beautiful. Mass and the curl make the trophy. Did you see lots of animals and was the hunt tough?

Thank you Magnum Hunter. I think I am ready as far as the import is concerned. Got the form filled out, etc. Was making sure there was a step in there that I wasn't aware of or if something I wasn't aware of that needs to be done.

Congrats again on the billy.

Nice billy Doug!!! That curl is deceiving with regard to the length! What were the temps like during the day and night?

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Scotty and Brett,
Sorry I kept overlooking the weather question. The weather was good while I was there. Sunshine and blue skies most days, high around 40 and I'll guess lows at night about 20. It did snow about 1" two nights but melted off the next day. There was some memorable wind one night also. Camp was very warm, in fact, a couple of nights I slept with the window open. We had a good fire keeper!
