https://www.dawn.com/news/1596...r-markhor-in-chitral LINK HAS PHOTO OF THE MARKHOR. American hunts Kashmir Markhor in Chitral The Newspaper's Correspondent 20 Dec 2020 CHITRAL: An American has hunted down a Kashmir Markhor with 40-inch horns in Toshi Shasha conservancy with a bow. Shahzada Sikandarul Mulk, president of Al-Burhan Conservation Society, told Dawn here on Saturday that Joseph Bradford had paid Rs13.12 million for the trophy hunting. He said it was the first trophy hunting performed with a bow, adding the hunter had to spend six days to accomplish the task. He said Mr Bradford had to launch his bow from a closer range while constantly being on the prowl as the markhors instinctively sensed the arrival of a hunter from afar. Mr Mulk said the hunter successfully targeted the markhor at the second attempt from a high point covered by trees on three sides on the last day of his expedition. He said Mr Bradford created a world record of hunting a markhor with the help of bow. He said the local community received 80 per cent of the income accrued from the permit fee as its share which was spent on their collective development and self-employment of jobless youth through the village conservation committees. Quite the accomplishment! On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died. If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch... Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son! - Rudyard Kipling Life grows grim without senseless indulgence.

The only way I would hunt in Afghanistan would be on a group hunt with Seal Team Six. But congrats to the successful hunter. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

I have spent part of my life in Afghanistan (10 months). I'd hunt Pakistan with the right outfitter. Not Iran though, not as an American. If I had a passport for a non-5 Eyes country I'd hunt Iran. Having watched the videos of this, they normally have a fairly heavily armed police escort. $150,000 hunt. Same animal or a hybrid there of, can be shot in Texas for $15,000. Having already had the Hindu-Kush experience if I was so inclined I'd just shoot one in Texas.

Every single person I k now who has hunted Pakistan came back giving glowing reviews. Great hunting. Magnificent terrain. Fascinating culture . They all felt safe. Precautions do have to be taken. Don't do stupid things. On Iran, I would love to go. They have some amazing hunting. Sadly, it is too dangerous. An acquaintance with ties to the Iranian government advised for no Americans to go. Why would I question his advice?

I have an aversion to terrorists, and secret police, kidnappings, and kangaroo courts, ransom demands, and sham convictions, and unjust imprisonment, whether unofficial or official. If things go sideways in any of these places, you will become just another sad story that nobody but your family will care or even know about. No, thanks.
