The hunt was conducted in the presence of Rizwanullah, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Chitral Gol National Park; Salimuddin, Chairman of Chitral Gol Community Development and Conservation Association; Shafiq Ahmad, Range Officer (Wildlife); and Ijazur Rehman, Range Officer. The revenue generated from the hunt will support wildlife conservation initiatives and enhance the livelihoods of local communities by funding various development projects. The buffer zone hunting programme aims to promote sustainable hunting practices, ensuring a balance between conservation and economic benefits for the people of Chitral. This successful hunt highlighted the effectiveness of the community-based conservation model, where controlled and regulated hunting plays a crucial role in protecting endangered species like the Markhor while providing incentives for local communities to preserve wildlife habitats. https://www.dawn.com/news/1889...y-hunting-of-markhor Chitral records first non-exportable trophy hunting of markhor Our Correspondent Published February 4, 2025 Updated about 10 hours ago CHITRAL: For the first time in the history of Chitral Gol National Park, a non-exportable trophy hunting of Kashmir Markhor was carried out here on Monday. Gulab Khan, a member of the local community, told Dawn that American national, Kyle Adam Miller, selected the markhor of trophy size in the buffer zone of the national park near Shoghore village on Garam Chashma Road and easily hunted it down. He said that the length of the horn of the nine and a half year old markhor was measured at 42 inches. He said that on the demand of the communities depending on the national park, the government had last year decided to start non-exportable trophy hunting in the buffer zones of the national park. Gulab Khan said that as per decision, the hunters could not export the trophy (horns) of the hunted animal with them to their home countries. He said that it had been the longstanding demand of the community as due to the successful conservation, the population of the markhor had increased in the park area. They're certainly an interesting animal with big horn growth although a rather scruffy looking animal coat wise. I don't think you can beat a big bull tahr with its quite regal winter coat though. What is the go with non-exportable trophies, what does this actually achieve? Once an animal is shot I don't see what the issue is with exporting the trophy or does the non-exportable part stop poaching by providing black and white border control measures? | |||

https://www.samaa.tv/208732851...n-chitral-for-66-000 American hunter hunts Markhor in Chitral for $66,000 Hunter obtained non-exportable hunting permit for first time in history of Chitral | Samaa TV Feb 05, 2025 An American hunter, Kyle Adam Miller, successfully hunted a Kashmir Markhor in the Shoghore Wildlife Range of Chitral, local wildlife officials confirmed. The Markhor, known for its impressive spiral horns, measured 45 inches in length. According to officials, the hunt was conducted under a legal permit system, with Miller having obtained a non-exportable hunting permit for the first time in the history of Chitral Gol National Park, for $66,000. According to reports, the hunter selected the 9.5-year-old markhor of trophy size in the national park's buffer zone, close to Shoghore hamlet on Garam Chashma Road, and easily pursued it. The Kashmir Markhor, Pakistan’s national animal, is a prized species for trophy hunting due to its majestic appearance and rarity. However, such hunts are strictly regulated under Pakistan’s Community-Based Trophy Hunting Program, which aims to balance conservation efforts with economic incentives for local communities. A significant portion of the permit fee is typically allocated to local development and wildlife preservation initiatives. According to a local, the government decided last year to begin non-exportable trophy hunting in the national park's buffer zones in response to the demand from the communities that depend on the area. The hunters were prohibited from taking the trophy (horns) of the killed animal back to their home nations, the local said. He claimed that the community had long demanded it because the markhor population in the park area had grown as a result of the effective conservation efforts.
