Chief Justice (CJ) LHC, Justice Muhammad Yaar Ali announced the ban while hearing the petition of Advocate Sheraz Zaka. The petitioner had stated that blackbuck is a rare animal and is being hunted in Pakistan despite it being termed illegal under Punjab Wildlife Protection Act 1974. He requested the court to order implementation of law regarding ban on the hunting of the animal. The petitioner while giving an example maintained that Bollywood actor Salman Khan was sentenced to five-year jail term in the blackbuck poaching case. “How many people have been punished over the violation?” inquired the court and summoned record of past five years of hunting blackbuck. With this, the court also imposed ban on hunting blackbuck in Pakistan. Kathi kathi@wildtravel.net 708-425-3552 "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page." | ||

The court also directed the department to ensure implementation of ban on hunting of the said protected species. LHC Chief Justice Muhammad Yawar Ali passed these orders while hearing a petition filed by Ali Imran seeking directives for conservation of endangered black bucks. As the proceedings began, the petitioner's counsel Shiraz Zaka argued that according to the Punjab Wildlife Preservation, Protection Wildlife Act, 1972, blackbuck was a protected species but the department was not serious to perform its obligations, besides questing the report submitted by the department earlier in connection with the case. An Additional Advocate General Punjab on behalf of the Wildlife Department submitted that the black bucks were found in Cholistan and Bahawalpur areas and the department had already imposed a ban on its hunting. He further apprised that the department had also taken action against the violators involved in hunting of the said species. At this, the court adjourning the further hearing till June 26 sought a report regarding action taken against violators.
