Yet another foreigner hunts markhor in Chitral

By Our CorrespondentJanuary 18, 2025

CHITRAL: David, a Spaniard hunter, has successfully hunted a Kashmir markhor in the Bokhtoli forest, located on the Chitral-Garam Chashma Road. David had obtained a hunting permit from the Wildlife Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for a fee of Rs78 million. The local Village Conservation Committee and community members assisted the hunter during the process.

The hunted Markhor’s horns were measured at 44 inches in length, marking it as the final trophy hunt of the season. Prior to this, an American hunter had hunted a Markhor in Toshi, and another Spaniard hunter had bagged one in Gahiret.

About 80 percent of the permit fee for trophy hunting is allocated to the local community for development projects. In return, the community contributes to the conservation efforts of the Markhor species in the region.

Spaniard hunts markhor in Toshi-Shasha conservancy

Our Correspondent Published January 18, 2025 Updated about 14 hours ago

CHITRAL: A national of Spain has hunted a Kashmir markhor near Bokhutuli village in Toshi-Shasha conservancy here after obtaining a trophy hunting permit for Rs78 million from the wildlife department.

A villager of Bokhtuli told Dawn that David Nogareda did not face any difficulty in finding a suitable markhor of the trophy size as the snow-covered pasture brought the animal to the lower altitude.

He said that the local community helped the Spanish national hunt the wild goat from a close range with the help of his automatic rifle, while its horn was found to be 44-inch high.

The villager said that the local community was highly delighted over the trophy hunting in the pasture after a long gap of many years, while they had been active in conservation of the wild goats ensuring that the conservancy has hundreds of trophy- size markhors.

Eighty per cent of the permit fee is paid to the local community for its well-being through the village conservation committee.
