I have been wanting to go to Kyrgystan for a couple of years and aint getting any younger. Only time frame feasible would be getting back by September 15th. Would you guys out there recommend trying the hunt or forget about it. I heard the ibex are really tough to get to when it is warm and also a lot less marco polo sheep around.

I haven't done it, yet. BUT all the hunters I know who went to Kyrgyzstan got their Marco polo and none of them was super fit. If you start training now you'll be ready by next sept and the the horses will help a lot.

pheasantman,

I do not know if you considered a "spring" hunt in Tajikistan (Feb/Mar) due to your having to be back by Sept. 15th.

Do not give up on making the trip work for you. I went in Nov 2008 to Tajikistan for ibex while my husband hunted Marco Polo. Watching the huge herds of Marco Polo sheep and ibex is one of those moments you always remember.

Best of luck, I hope you get to go, you will remember the trip forever.

I only was there once so not very experienced, anyhow I hunted issyk kool near the china border in november and saw plenty of marco polo and was told at least in that region that in warmer months the rams stayed in china, I guess it will depend on where in kyrgysztan exactly you go.

normally the rams stayed in the winter at the southern side of the mountains and in summer - at the northern side of the mountains.
