SW Colorado Duck Hunt

DC RoxbySW Colorado Duck Hunt
Hunted a reservoir in SW Colorado with friends on Sunday. Wind was blowing hard and we had snow and sleet off and on all day. We set out about 5 1/2 dozen Avery decoys on the leeward side of a point projecting out into the lake. We set a mix of mallards, widgeon, and green winged teal. Also had six goldeneye dekes set on the end of our spread. We had a great day and took quite a variety of ducks. We killed a drake canvasback, two drake widgeon, a drake scaup, a drake greenwing and 3 drake and one hen (my goof) bufflehead. We also saw a flock of 15+ hooded mergansers which was a treat.

I don't shoot elk at 600 yards for the same reasons I don't shoot ducks on the water, or turkeys from their roosts. If this confuses you then you're not welcome in my hunting camp.

DC RoxbyTook some more nice ducks on the Colorado River today. Common goldeneyes, mallards and a wood duck. Missed some shots at greenwings as well. The ducks were loving the spread and almost every duck that came down the river committed to the decoys. Tried some Hevi-Metals in 4 today for the first time and was impressed. Every duck hit well simply folded.
