subsailor74Grouse / Woodcock Hunt in Northern Wisconsin
I just returned from a 3 1/2 day hunt in Northern Wisconsin (Rheinlander area)for grouse and woodcock. We had great dog work, and there are lots of birds this year. We were getting in excess of 40 flushes per day. It is very dry there, so most birds taken were in low areas or within 100 yards or so of water. It snowed about 1/2" last Saturday, and by Sunday we were seeing the first arrival of flight birds. We hunted mostly public land, so if you are thinking of going there, you should have a fair amount of action.

twilliNice looking weimeraners. Did you get both red and gray phase grouse? How many timberdoodles did you get?

afroSounds like you had an awesome trip with a 40 flush daily avg.
I live 16 NW of Rhinelander, and have seen more birds this season than over the past 2yrs.
Hope you enjoyed your stay.

Yes - I took both red and grey phase grouse. My tally for 3 1/2 days was 8 grouse and 11 woodcock. We had to have a game dinner the second day to avoid going over our possession limit for woodcock!

bwanamrmSuperb bag and great hunt! Well done!
