L. David KeithFor those that love hunting seaducks..or hope to
I'm seeing a big change coming in the 2016-17 sea duck regulations. Season cut from 140+ days down to 60 days and limits cut in half. Previously, you could take 7 sea ducks per day (Eider, Old Squaw, 3 species of Scoter) but limited to only 4 of any species. Add divers/puddle ducks, Brant or the various geese of the east coast and you could have a great day of gunning. With these changes forthcoming, you might want to book yourself a day or three before the days of great shooting gets cut in half. Most of this comes from head scratching. Anytime the Fed's and/or "paid experts" can't answer "How many" or "Where do they come from and where do they go to" it's time to do what they do best, reduce limits and days in the field. Seems to solve everything. If your looking for a guide, I know a few good ones, give me a call. LDK

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

L. David KeithHere's an example of what MD's DNR is saying: "DNR will host a public meeting to review this year’s waterfowl population status and to collect comments on the proposed hunting seasons. The meeting will also cover a recent assessment completed by USFWS that suggests sea duck populations (eiders, scoters and long-tailed ducks) are potentially being overharvested under the current regulations. Public input will be collected on how to adapt to the anticipated reductions in sea duck seasons and bag limits in 2016-2017."
Seems to be the consensus on the east coast.

NortonThe fact that they're marginally edible should be limiting enough for the population to thrive. I would do it a lot more if I could find anyone willing to eat them.

Just find some Cajuns, they'll cook anything and make it taste great!

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.
NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.
I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

L. David KeithA good Cajun friend once told me: "A Cajun eats everything but the squeal!"

One of my go to guides takes all the sea ducks his hunters don't want to mount to a fella that makes a smoked sausage out of them. I am told he can't make enough to fill their orders. Evidently, smoke makes anything taste good. Brant on the other hand are excellent.
