I drew a pacific flyway Montana swan tag for this year, and I am meeting some friends in North Dakota October 31 for our annual hunting trip , so I have decided to make a road trip out of it and I am going to drive up to Montana around the first of October and spend the whole month hunting waterfowl and upland game ... that being said I have never been up there and know absolutely zero about it , so far my plan is to watch watch the number of swans at Freezeout Lake and when they get good head that way , but I’m the meantime I have a couple of weeks with nothing really planned . A Any Montana suggestions or recomendations would be welcome ,. Thanks

I hunted NE Montana for birds block management area can be good as any place access to private land is a huge benefit. There are small lakes and some pot holes when I was there late Oct. There was lots of ducks. Not as many as the Dakotas. One needs to go and put in the time.

I just read this thread this morning. I have hunted tundra swans in Old Montana 6 or 7 times and I love it !!! Golden October days with the skies filled with (at times) hundreds of swans and geese and ducks flying every which way. I will send you a pm on it … Block management ranches for the bird shooting is a great suggestion ...
