Going to Guayascate in Argentina with my wife and another couple in November. My wife just got on Medicare and I will be on a temp medical insurance policy as I turn 65 in December (I retired last year). On all my Africa trips I always had Global Rescue or Ripcord. This is my fifth trip to South America and my wife's second. On our previous trips we didn't worry much as our medical insurance "traveled" with us. Medicare doesn't. For those of you that are of "Medicare age" that go to South America-do you just get a travel insurance plan or do you feel the need for a plan like Ripcord? Thanks.

That is a great question. It is important to review the medical assistance and evacuation policies within any typical insurance program before traveling. Often times policies will require the individual to arrange transportation themselves from their point of injury to a local clinic or hospital.
