Yes, he is a Temminck's and I have a female on the way for him.

Naki, these guys don't seem interested in much live protien. They seem more vegetarian with a preference for fruits and fresh greens. He will eat corn and game bird feeds but they must have the fresh veggies and fruits. One of his favorites is a cooked sweet potato and like all birds he loves bread.

My guy here is hand tame and very interesting to watch. I am hoping the female I have coming in for him is accepted without issue.

I hope to add some more pheasants soon. I am trying to decide between Hume's, Amherst or coppers.

Thanks for that info Ann. They do need protien - fish meal is ideal buy any kind of ofal meat that has been sterilised to kill salmonella etc. is fine. Yes they do eat a lot of sedges and tubers in the wild. Have you tried giving hem onion & garlic?

I really wish your venture is successful and you get lots of chicks.

I got some ring neck & golden pheasant eggs and hatched them under a bantam about 3 years ago but the chicks did not survive. I suppose they need to be reared under a brooding bulb for some weeks.

The game bird kibble has fish meal in it. I've offered him cooked meat and it does not interest him like my chickens. But they will eat anything.

He's ignored onion greens.

The female is due in today which is good news. She shipped from her home state yesterday.

Naki, I've tried ringneck chicks with broody hens. For some reason they would not stay with the hen even though she hatched them. I had to rear them under a light and have done so successfully combining them with other chicks.

I had some beautiful mutants I raised one year. They were free ranging here and stayed near the house but like most unguarded fowls, hawks persued them relentlessly until they were all captured and eaten.

Tragopans are supposed to be good parents. I'd like to put a pair of goldens or amherst in this pen as well.
