Is this a local name or sub spieces.
I was looking on a Maine outfitter web and it said they shoot Zebra scoters.

There are 3 species of Scoters.

- Black Scoter (aka Common Scoter)
- Surf Scoter
- White-wing Scoter (aka Velvet Scoter in Europe)

Every now and then someone shoots a scoter with white on the body due to some chromosomal abnormalities. That may give the scoter a zebra look. So there are no species or sub-species that are named Zebra scoters.

My guess is that they are using a slang term because they may have shot more than one scoters with white in their area. It would be quite a trophy and definitely go on the wall Smiler
