OK, maybe virgin is a little strong-i did grow hunting pheasants and quail as a kid. I just bought a Semi auto SBEII for all pupose use and need advice for the following: 1. I am going to a local gun club to shoot trap tommorow just for fun. What size and type of shells should I buy? 2. Less immediate, I am going to hunt Michigan turkeys in the spring-which shells?

I like to shoot Fiocchi target loads. Turkeys I have been using 3" 4 shot, used the duplex loads too, but haven't in a while. Not neccesarily the gospel, just what I happen to use. BTW, I have an SBEII that has become a favorite, I think you will enjoy yours. A very smooth responsive gun for what it is IMHO.

For trap most casual shooters use whatever is the cheapest available loads, typically 1 oz of 8s. If you get really serious about it and shoot handicap, you'll probably want 1 1/8 oz of 7 1/2s. I agree with modified at 16, although a lot of those who really are into this use a full choke. I've used a modified, full and my favorite is the improved modified. If you haven't done much trap but would like one piece of advice only, it is that you have to get the shot off real fast. They come out at 85 mph or thereabouts and get on away from you otherwise. You can still shoot at it, but if it's on out there you're probably looking at a miss. You want to hit it on the early part of its rise, before the top of its arc. I agree with 3" on turkeys. And plain old lead is sufficient. I don't think a specialty load sold just for turkeys is necessary. #4 sounds fine, although I prefer the thicker pattern of #6s. That means waiting til one is reasonably close. I like #5s even better, but it's not easy to find those in factory loads. I'd go for a head shot with a full choke.

#5 Turkey loads.....lead is fine. Depending on how I feel, I'll shoot 3.5 or 3". I use the extra full choke with the Stoeger M2000 with 3" #5......IC with my SBEII and 3.5" #5......both kill 'em deader than dead. Trap.....what they said above.

Thanks all. I am all set now. cheap 7.5's or 8's with the mod choke installed. I just bought some Hevishot turkey loads in #5's. I will get out and pattern the shotgun prior to hunting my turkeys. Thanks again.
