I was just told that all outfitters in Cordoba would not be hunting doves November and December this year. Anyone else heard this?

I had heard sometime back that maybe dove numbers or at least concentrations of doves is not the same as in the past.

I have only been to Argentina 8 times (so far). From what I know it depends on how far you go "away" from Cordoba. The number of outfitters and lodges has more than tripled in the last 5-8 years so many are feeling the pressure. There is no substitute for talking to someone who has been where you are considering going recently or using a RELIABLE booking agent (I highly recommend Joe Patterson at TREK). PM me if you want more info.

I have been down somewhere in the area of 15 times to shoot doves. From what I understand, there can be a mini-migration of the birds annually . This is caused by the harvesting of the crops. If the crops are harvested earlier or later for some reason, so can the timing of the mini-migration be earlier or later.

The birds will disappear for a few weeks and will return. It happened year end, year out.

In the areas I go, it happens in more or less May/early June. It never happens in the time frame you are mentioning. This is not to say that it might not be happening at that time elsewhere in the province.

This may or may not be what they are referring to.

I lost count how many times I’ve been in the past 13 years. In fact, I’ve semi lived there almost half the year off and on since 2015. The agriculture harvest does affect the hunting, but the key is to have access to multiple fields throughout the year in various locations to have the best opportunities.

As Dr. Pozzi and others said, the population is not diminishing. In fact, it seems to be increasing even with more outfitters and hunters. Comparing the numbers on the “brag boards,” they are definitely increasing and 1,000 a day is rather commonplace now.

That being said, Córdoba is a big province. We are just about an hour north of the airport.

hellow gentlemen i just been chating with government biologists and they expect 2 millions more doves this year.Duck population is increasing too and great damage to ricefields .Farmers are begging for poison of course it wouldnt be permitted.Doves sometimes move a few kms from heavy shooting areas.Sometimes you dont see them and in a few meters you see a river of doves in the sky. ill publish any news but dont worry you can easily shoot 1000 shells in a morning.
Cheers Juan

I asked a very well know outfitter in Cordoba again this morning about the possibility of hunting in November/December. Here is their exact quote.

"For November and December, all dove shooting lodges in Cordoba have agreed to close to help the reproductive cycle of the doves. August, September and October are great alternative months.

And......I was told by a US booking agent just yesterday that Uruguay is suspending waterfowl hunts in most of its areas this year, 2019. His sources tell him many of the major Uruguayan duck outfitters have been overshooting their areas for the last several years. He was attempting to verify this. As of this morning, I've not heard back from him.
