It appears that we are losing our Outfitter in SD that we ahve hunted with for several years...unexpectedly??
Any suggestions for a late booking at a good lodge with good shooting...not out the roof in pricing for this season...6 shooters? Late Oct, early Nov 2012.
Thanks much.

Try rock creek ranch. Pheasant, sharpies and prairie chickens. Reasonable and has the birds!

Greg;
Thanks much, I will look for them. Are they in SD, I don't think of that state as a Prairie Chicken and Sharptail area??

Cheers,
Steve

470 What happened to the outfitter if I may ask?

If I had to guess he probably had his leased CRP land jerked out from under him and planted to row crops like so many have? SD like everywhere else is headed downhill due to high grain prices.

It is really a sad situation. It is a huge investment in the Lodge and lots of leases for a short season by a family of hard working folks.
The primary manager/head guide is only in his 40's and had a serious heart issue and is not able to hunt or manage the operations even through this season....they are cancleing most of their hunts and will be selling the lodge. The family chose not to hire a Manager/head guide to try to hold it together....
If anyone is interested in a nice lodge set up and leases that might be taken over...please PM me and we can discuss and put you in touch.
We had great hunts there for several years!!
Could be operated as a B&B lodge/motel remainder of the year with enterprising owners...just a couple of miles off I-90...
FYI, our group did find an alternative that had space for us this season...we'll see how it works out?? Weather and Birds might be challenging with the droughts they suffered this summer!! Indications are that birds weathered well??
Cheers

South Dakota F&G is predicting bird numbers in that area to be up a little from last year.

The biggest problem in the "Pheasant Business" these days is the inability to compete with farming for habitat.

Look up the Mitchell, SD chamber of commerce and look for:

A&D Zoss pheasant hunting. I have been going there for over 15 years. Great people, family run farm and hunting. Stay in the farm house and eat home cooked meals, Great time for up to eight people at a time.

Sorry for the delay.

Derek long, he is in the chamberlain area, he can take a pretty big group, and he has a couple different lodges he can put you up in, he can arrange anything from just hunting, to boarding, to full service with meals etc.
His phone number is 605 730 1404

Tell him patricio sent you.
