Very nice birds. I'm happy you had a good hunt. I was the one who phoned you monday night. I looked for you guys tuesday with the binoculars in three locations but couldn't find you. You must have been furthur out in the harbor than usual. I did see alot of Eider off Deer Island and a flock of 40-50 Greater Scaup plus a mix of the usual'Buffleheads,R B Mergansers and some Goldeneyes. If you come again we will have to meet up.

Thank you collector. I'm thinking about mounting these birds myself. It's been far too long away from the bench. Of interest, we were coming into the boat ramp and decided to swing into a tidal flat to see if any Black Ducks were using it. Only a few Buffle Heads but I spotted a small bird on the water so we puttered over the check it out. At first I thought it was a Penguin, but the bird allowed us to get within 5 feet. That's when I recognized it as a Razorbill. He was more interested in sticking his head below water and scanning for fish than what we were doing. I think he would be out of his winter range?

Wow...I had no idea you mounted birds as well. I wish I had that skill

All the best and I am so glad you had a wonderful trip. Auk species are regular winter visitors in Maine (Murres, Puffins, Razorbills) the only problem is that they are in their dull plumage during winter...their full colors do not come out until late spring, going into summer. They they are absolutely a delight to look at.

Jack/collector, thanks for the info. I've always loved birds like you guys, but never thought about other seabirds on our east coast. Watching that little guy go about his biz was really cool. He could have cared less about us, he was too focused on scanning for lunch. Lots of Buffleheads and a few Goldeneye but as Adam said, no Cans or Reds on the head. I loved that hunt and will do it again. I'll have to come see you Jack and spend a few days with you on the water. Such a treat to hunt these birds and seeing one of our most historical cities was priceless. Cheers and Merry Christmas!
