BrantI shot the birds in the pics, and took the other photos. My guide and I had a "blast" taking the photos. Testament to the amount of birds we saw. I think I have 800 pictures from that trip and we were lucky enough to get 5-6 "impact" shots. That pic in the other thread of a dove is tremendous, it should be on a brochure or in a magazine.

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......
"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Your pictures are great also but that last picture of the spotted winged flying is fantastic !!!
I agree with you, the picture of the dove flying MUST be in a brochure but your last one also !!
Collector,
You are poisoning my soul with those wonderful pictures, I think I must go and buy a shotgun so I can take some ducks to the taxidermist.
I LOVE your mounts.
Question for both of you, what equipment do I need to take pictures of birds ? I have always dreamed with doing that. It's difficult ?

BrantGlad you like the pictures! I use a Nikon D80 DSLR and a 18-200MM zoom for most of my photography. I have some other lenses, but the range on this lens is great. I am not a great photographer, but have been fortunate to be in some great spots for photography. Don't be afraid to push the button - that's the beauty of digital photography, you can just delete the ones you don't like. South America has such a great array of birds - it's one of my favorite parts of my trips down there.

collector@Lorenzo,
Ha...my mission is accomplished....I have made you diehard rifle experts thinking about shotguns and flying targets

Glad you are enjoying my waterfowl mounts...so as far as equipment goes all of my cameras and lenses are Canon.
Is it difficult ?
No absolutely not...it is just like rifle (or shotgun shooting)...the more you practice, better you will get at it. Find some instruction or a friend who can give you tips and your skills will improve by leaps and bounds. Camera equipment has kind of gone on the expensive side....any of the single digit EOS models are good 1D, 5D, 7D all get my stamp of approval and for lenses I would suggest EF L IS lenses with Image Stabilization technology. And I highly recommend a high-end Apple iMAC for post processing. It will set you back a couple of grand but you will be off to a good start.

BrantI thikn they are pretty good, much like a dove. In a couple places I've hunted them, they eat olives - it's like they are already marinated!
