Birds have pretty much disappeared from three week ago, but still I had a ball being afield this opening weekend of Texas central zone dove season.

A CZ Ringneck SxS. Full choke and 6 shot on the right, modified and 7-1/2 shot on the left. Left before right!

I've mentioned before, my dad was not a hunter. I was born in 1951, he passed in October 2009. He never owned a rifle or pistol to my knowledge. I went with him in 1958 to pick up this shotgun.

Browning sweet sixteen, vent rib and "gold" trigger. I grew up shooting it. I can't begin to count the number of blackbirds, robins, dove, woodcock, bats, crows, ducks, geese, squirrels and and clay pigeons I've busted with this shotgun.

Got my kix with it this weekend!

A line from Tenesse Ernie Ford singing "16 tons"........... If the right one don't a-get you, then the left one will!

I had it made in the shade!

Left: Beretta Silver Pigeon, King Ranch edition, 20 ga.

Right: Remington 11-87, 12 Ga. Special Purpose Mag, Parkerized and stock refinshed by mo1!

Along with 7 hoglets perforated, I had a ball!

ya!

NICE gedubya. My bank used to take some of us out to property that they owned on opening day + afterward had a fish fry + skeet shoot. They don't do that anymore, mores the pity.I have a stock tank here on my place but since the boys have grown its just not the same. Thanks for the pics/memories.

GWB,

I count seven empty hulls and six doves in the third photo. If that's all the powder you burned for the six doves, then you shoot much, much better than the majority of us.

They are real ariel acrobats;I guess that's a big part of the shooting that makes it so enjoyable.

Really nice work Gdubya. Those little CZ doubles are a lot of gun for the money. You just have too much fun. Oh, and those Rio shotshells are the best on the market. Cleanest burning powder I’ve ever seen. I can shoot them all day long and there’s never a powder build up in my barrels or action.

GWB, Great pictures! Good on you getting out there for some opening day dove! Dove and pigeon shooting - can't beat it. Love the story about the guns too but not sure about shooting robins and bats !!!! Happy days!
