We were cutting our field a few days ago. My dad was on the tractor, cutting along a treeline, when he saw a grouse about ten feet out into the field. As he got closer, and she didn't fly, he started looking closer. Sure enough, he saw more movement. Momma grouse had nine baby grouse with her!

They eventually tried to fly, but only made it about five feet before very ungracefully crash landing again, the way immature birds will. After a little regrouping and scrambling, they all made it into the woods as a group.

They were just uphill from a few acres of wild grapevines, so they have some good living.

I can't wait for October!

Thats good news. October is just the best time to be out and about here in the Northeast. It's when I carry the Sauer and scout for deer.
