. ![]() I posted recently on shooting crows at a bio gas plant on an invitation from a shooting friend. Well, we managed to get in one last shoot before the season for crows closes on the 10th March. Planning this one, I was like a kid in the days running up to Christmas! What shotgun, which cartridges and weather checks. I love my bird shooting that much! I opted to shoot a new (to me) shotgun that I recently picked up on a German internet site ‘eGun’ specifically for rainy day shoots and fox hunts - a Tundra 12/70 made in the USSR. It’s engraved on the action too “Made in USSR”. Yeah ok, I get it that a lot of AR readers wouldn’t touch it because of the whole Putin mess, but cut me some slack, this was a $ 140,- internet purchase specifically for rainy days and fox shoots and although the weather forecast was sunshine and blue skies, I needed to see if the gun could shoot! This is to be a ‘rough shoot’ type of gun as opposed to others that I own. As for the cartridges it was Eley 30 gramme Clear Pigeons, a hard hitting lead cartridge on a fibre wad. Ideal for late winter crows. And as I found out, it shoots great! I was up early and made the 60 minute drive in 55 minutes, arriving as planed well before first light to set up the blind and put out the decoys. I had a couple of frozen birds that I set in the pattern and on a flapper from the start to have some movement in the decoy pattern from the off. And it was not long before we had crows calling on the wing and coming in to investigate our decoys! Heinz and I shot a great bag of crows taking all types of mixed shots - high birds, crossers, crows falling in to the decoys, going away birds and more! We literally had a blast! I really love my wing shooting and especially decoyed pigeons and crows and this one was an awesome shoot to finish the season on! And here a few pictures - whilst we were shooting a truck came in to the gas plant and offloaded a tonne of sweet potatoes! Bio fuel for the gas plant!? It crossed my mind that was enough to feed a number of rural African villages for weeks! What are we doing wrong ?! Anyhow's, enjoy the pictures ... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It has not been a bad season at the crows. Season ends 10 March and on 01 August we start again! Cheers .
