NakihunterIndia - Bharatpur Sanctuary
Hunting has been banned in India for decades. These are some pictures I took while visiting the sanctuary in January. It was the hunting preserve of the local Maharajah. The old hunting logs show that 30 to 40 guns shot over 4000 birds in a day about 100 years ago.
Nakta Duck
White breasted water hen - like a moor hen
Shoveller - great plumage even in january
Green pigeon (I have shot these in Assam in the 1980s.
Spot bill ducks - I have shot these as well
Lesser Whistling teal - a tree nesting duck like the Nukta. Good shooting
A thrush or a flycatcher
We saw pythons sunning themselves. Also nilgai, chital & wild boar.
