I have just been asked to represent a hunting and fishing lodge in Chile by a friend of mine who is an owner.

The trout fishing is proven and looks awesome, but apparently there is some excellent goose and hare shooting to be had.

Has anyone hunted down there? I will be conducting an exploratory trip with some clients that have expressed an interest in April so it should prove to be an exciting opportunity to develop a new location.

Rgds,
K

A guy flew with us on a a charter in Argentina last year. He had just finished a hunt in Chile. It was a great hunt based upon what he said and the pictures we saw.

I had a really bad experience with a crook from Chile a few years back.

Carlos Hernandez of Hunting Chile

Stay the heck away from this guy if at all possible. Carlos has ZERO integrity.

Thanks for the heads up.

Would you care to elaborate? Either here or by PM. This is not who I'm using but just curious as to the local scams as it is helpful to know.

Here is what happened. He was running the operation called "Hunt Chile". Everything from what I saw in the pictures looked good, Lodging, Hunting Locations, Species available, everything looked great. Communicated via emails, he seemed like a very nice genuine person. Sometimes you have to take the leap of faith, I took one with this guy, sent him a 50% deposit....and he disappeared after that. This was about 5 years ago.

Later on I ran into another hunter from Florida who had been a victim of Carlos Hernandez of Hunt Chile. He did the same thing to him. Took his deposit and never returned his emails or calls.

I know a ton of Argentinians, have made countless trips there....yet to have had any problems dealing with an Argentinian. They have integrity.

I just do not have the time to track a crook down in South America. I took the loss and moved on. Hopefully you will run into some nicer Chilean people. Good luck.

Thanks mate, I will keep my eyes open in case the name comes up anywhere.

I had similar things happen to me in Argentina and Africa, but sometimes like you say, sometimes you have to chalk it up to experience and crack on, while trying to learn from the mistakes.
